I had a discussion yesterday about the reasons why I blog and write poetry. I am under no allusions as to any skill I have, nor do I post these in anticipation of appreciation. Both blog and poetry are primarily personal, and readers are a (very pleasant) added extra. I am always astounded by what rings bells with people (not so much with what doesn't)... I was totally amazed by how many people said that yesterday's piece resonated with them, indeed I originally thought that it was so personal in tone that I wasn't going to post a link to it on social media at all and simply leave it to regular readers of this blog (all 3 of you) to find it on your own. So what do I know!?
Earlier today I did state on Facebook that it was ironic, given my recent output that I had nothing to post on National Poetry Day. But of course that then started me thinking again, and primarily about why I write my poetry... and the following is the product of that thinking...
Poetry
A pause in words
A portal to another
Perspective
A break
From the relentless
Paragraphs of prose
Space on the page
The remaining words
Distilling the internal
Intangible, personal
Into something
Visible yet vulnerable
A tentative exposure
Of ideas and emotions
Cloaked in metaphor
Carefully crafted
Or flowing freely
Rhyming and rhythmic
Intricately versified
and punctuated
Or deliberately not
For public consumption
Or private reflection
Inspired?
Inspiring?
Its over to you
Or deliberately not
For public consumption
Or private reflection
Inspired?
Inspiring?
Its over to you
