Another reblog of a post from the first year of this blog back in 2008, but is actually a poem I wrote in the manse of Wicklow Methodist Church on 17th September 1993 at the beginning of my last year of training for ordained ministry at Edgehill College. As such itvis actually the oldest poem in my collection of "Doodlings and Doggerel" but it came to mind tonight in the service of Installation as President of the Methodist Church in Ireland of my good friend and colleague John Alderdice, when he cited II Corinthians 4: 7
Cracked, clay pot
moss-covered
containing hard cold earth
whilst
beneath the surface
sits a seed-
stored life
waiting...
