Here is the Candle Liturgy we will be using tomorrow morning in our Advent Communion Service at Belfast South Methodist. Once again it is based on the work of Rev. Mary Whitson, who produced this year's material the Canadian Presbyterian Church's World Service & Development Department.
The
Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, a young woman shall conceive and
bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel, meaning: God with us.
For
to us a child is born, to us a son is given;
and the government will be upon his shoulder,
and his name will be called
"Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of
Peace."
From Isaiah 7:14; 9:6 (RSV)
and the government will be upon his shoulder,
and his name will be called
"Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
Peace is the flame given by God to be a light in the darkness.
The flame of peace is the
promise of God.
Peace is the flame given by God to bring justice to the world.
The flame of peace is
righteousness and equity.
Peace is the flame given by God to bring order to our lives
The flame of peace enters the world again with the coming of the
Prince of Peace.
(The candle is lit.)
Let us pray:
Source of light, shine in
our lives and in your world
with your everlasting
peace.
Through Jesus Christ our
Lord we pray. Amen.
